I must really love driving to get up at 5am and drive face first into the sun rise 2 hours out into the finger lakes wine country to play with the car on an old Army runway.

I got killed, I really need to just buy new tires. It was an oven of a day with 90°F temps. Morning went well, figured out the course and started getting up to speed. In the afternoon session my first run was the lap in the video, then my beat up OE tires boiled and got greasy.

Next lap I managed to make an Audi oversteer, kicked the ass out, caught the slide but tail whipped a cone. Third and Fourth runs were both a 1/2 sec slower as continuing to try and push the cooked tires harder just resulted in more sliding and buckets of understeer.

Still had fun, but if I want to put up a reasonable time I’m going to have to just say fuck it get new tires this year rather than next summer. These are dying fast.

Suppose the open question is do I just stick PS4S tires on the 20" Audi wheels (best thing that fits this oddball size of 255/30R20) and use them? O r buy some RE71R’s that fit my 19" Enkei winter wheels and make those dual purpose (track/winter) and leave the dubs for street use ?

Good run!

On a big power , heavier car like that, A052 would be better than RE71 imo...T hey make them in 245/35/R19

Do those have stiffer sidewalls? Rolling the fronts is a real problem with the 60/40 weight balance. And the car really doesn’t respond well to overcompensating with high pressures.

245/35 is the OE size for the 19" and they would fit on my enkei wheels. But then I’m dropping 10mm width.

Tire dilemmas...

They are supposed to have a slightly softer side wall than re71 but quite a lot more forward bite...may have to change driving style to work with A052, I guess...

10mm is not going to be a big deal, especially considering that A052 run wider than the same sized RE71

Cool, thanks for the input. Been looking up reviews on the A052. Looks like the advantage is in longitudinal grip so yeah that would probably be advantageous given the cars strength is acceleration.

Looks like people have run them without issue on Evos;   much heavier car than the TT so I think I would be ok there. Plus they seem to handle heat better. Which would be good for me. The OE Advan sports were too hot to touch after yesterday’s runs and did not handle it well at all. Granted they’re also 3 years old and hard as rocks.

Im leaning toward using my 19" winters as dual purpose track/snow at this point. It would take 4-5 years of seasonally swapping tires to reach the cost of a 3rd set of wheels. The enkeis are also 5lbs per corner lighter, so that will make the brakes happy.

Yep, they handle heat well but they seem to like to run cold af...So much so that I was spraying them after every run; sometimes twice between runs.

A052 can put down 400bhp, 400 lbft from my Vette in 2nd gear really well, so it’ll be just perfect for the TTRS!
